For it’s a jolly good fellow

The Audi TT celebrates its 20th birthday at the Audi TT Birthplace Tour

For more than three generations, the Audi TT has enjoyed great popularity. Then as now, it delights fans with sheer driving pleasure. And that has to be celebrated! Together with the German club TT Owners, we visited the location where the first model rolled off the line 20 years ago.

Győr, Hungary – that’s where it all began. Out there where the first sporty coupe of the model series 8N left the plantation in the autumn of 1998, all models of the first generation are still manufactured there today. That’s how the Audi TT became a design icon over the years and is now the best prove that a sporty car and everyday suitability aren’t a different kettle of fish. Aficionados appreciate that.

The TT Owners Club – a German automobile club for TT enthusiasts – used this occasion to celebrate their favorite vehicle appropriately. The festivities took place where the Audi TT feels the most comfortable: on the road. The area around Győr and the Lake Balaton offered the best conditions for a tour among like-minded people.

An athlete that enjoys cult status

As part of the “TT Birthplace Tour“, the members of the TTOC met up in the Hungarian Győr with more than 30 vehicles and presented their most precious cars. From the iconic TT Roadster of the first model range up to the latest TT RS, a full range of models were present, some individually enhanced and all of them with a lot of passion for detail. Aside from long drives through Budapest and the Balaton region, a visit to the production site of Audi Hungaria was a part of the program.

Already an icon today – the Audi TT Roadster of the first generation.

Thus, the TTOC is a good example for how a vehicle brings people together. Through the shared love for the Audi TT, real friendships were created that through events like this become more and more meaningful for the involved parties. Apart from the enormous popularity for the whole model range, it’s the human relations like these that contribute significantly to the Audi TT success story.

Design meets performance

For more than two decades, the Audi TT has been an integral part in the European sport cars world and it’s barely possible to imagine the one without the other. The design-driven first generation and the second generation shaped by performance were combined and perfected in the third generation. With its attractive exterior, its sporty performance and reliability, the Audi TT is a careerist in many regards.

Dynamics, emotion and technology since 1998

The Audi TT has been combining the driving dynamics of a sporty vehicle with the optics of a design icon for more than 20 years. The acronym TT stands for “Tourst Trophy” and is derived from the traditional motorcycle race Isle of Man TT. NSU used to participate in them successfully.
